Blizzard's furry friends
Blizzard's much anticipated and much hyped World of Warcraft: Cataclysm was officially released at midnight (0:00 Tuesday, 7 December), and, not to be outdone, our local Fred Meyer hosted the launch with special hours (actually, 25 minutes--they were open 23:50 to 24:15 just to sell WoW) and a raffle. I had joked with Carol about there likely being donuts; I was pleasantly surprised to find they had both the chocolate and powdered-sugar variety - and generic cola, which I find superior to both Coke and Pepsi (though RC is by far the best).
Accurately anticipating the size of the teeming crowd of gamers, I arrived at the store 20 minutes or so before the event and sat in the parking lot listening to classical music on the radio while the line waiting outside in the cold swelled from six to eight. Just before the doors opened, I sauntered over and joined the ranks. Before the celebration was done, the crowd had grown to the impressive number of eleven!
Carol had already downloaded the update, so I was there just for the raffle (and, as it turned out, the donuts). I did not win (a free month of World of Warcraft online time), but anyone who wanted one got a free Energizer Bunny Christmas stocking, so I took one home to annoy the cat.
So, all in all, a much better experience than the Costco debacle chronicled earlier.
